Elizabeth Linington

Barbara Elizabeth Linington (born March 11, 1921 in Aurora Kane , Illinois , † April 5, 1988 in Arroyo Grande , California ) was an American crime writer .

Life

Elizabeth Linington was a prolific writer who published most of her novels under a pseudonym ; B. under the name Dell Shannon . She chose a man's name because, with her stories about "Lieutenant Luis Mendoza" from the Los Angeles Police Department, she was one of the first women to enter the male-dominated genre of the police novel. As Lesley Egan , she also wrote two other larger series about the suburban police officer "Vic Varallo" and the lawyer "Jesse Falkenstein".

Honors

Shannon thrillers were nominated twice for the Edgar by the Mystery Writers of America (MWA) : Case Pending (1961) as best first novel and Knave of Hearts (1963) as best novel of the year. The series includes 37 crime novels. Nightmare , published under the name Anne Blaisdell , was also nominated in 1962 in the Best Novel category.
