The ELK prefab GmbH is a European prefabricated housing maker headquartered in Schrems , Lower Austria .

We produce and erect prefabricated houses for private customers and multi-storey residential buildings, commercial buildings, municipal buildings, commercial buildings, motels and hotels for corporate customers .

history

The company goes back to an export-import company for production machines and equipment founded in 1959 by Johann Weichselbaum. In 1970 log houses were imported from Finland for the first time , for which the brand name ELK-Haus was registered and the first model houses were built. From 1973, prefabricated wooden houses were also imported from Norway and ELK was the general contractor in house construction. In 1979 the ELK-Fertighaus GmbH & Co KG was founded in Schrems, the first factory was built and from 1980 the first self-produced houses were built. In 1989, a log house plant was opened at the company's headquarters in Schrems.

In 1990 the GmbH & Co. KG was renamed a non-listed stock corporation, the Weichselbaum family remained full owners. In the same year, three plants for prefabricated houses, windows, doors and glued wooden beams were built in the Czech Republic, operated as a subsidiary under Austrian management. As early as 1992 ELK achieved a market share of 30% in Austria. The international orientation was continuously continued, initially through subsidiaries in Germany and Switzerland, later through partners and licensees and finally in 2002 with the majority takeover (89.62%) of the German Bien-Zenker AG.

In 2009 Erich Weichselbaum took over ELK Fertighaus AG with his board colleagues Walter Fischl and Gerhard Schuller. The DEIN Haus Holding GmbH founded for this purpose with managing director Isabella Weichselbaum-Kiskanoglou acquired 66 percent of ELK Fertighaus AG.

In 2013, ELK sold the shares in the German Bien-Zenker AG to the Munich-based Adcuram Group . The Austrian Zenker-Hausbau GmbH was taken over by DEIN Haus Holding, but continued to operate independently. In the same year, the ELK Group adapted its companies to the requirements of a modern group organization. ELK Fertighaus AG became ELK Fertighaus GmbH, DEIN Haus Holding GmbH became ELK Holding AG.

In 2016, the ELK Group produced 935 houses with 1,102 employees. The operating performance in 2016 was 170 million euros.

In April 2015 it became known that the company would like its employees to cut wages by three to four percent by the end of 2016. This is intended to expand business in England and Germany. An employee participation model was launched between 2010 and 2014, with employees paying in seven percent of their gross wages. The promised repayment of the sums failed to materialize, apart from small amounts, so the works council canceled the model.

On July 5, 2016, the takeover of Elk-Fertighaus by Gampen Fertighaus Sarl of the Austrian entrepreneur Matthias Calice, who had already taken over the prefabricated house manufacturer Hanlo in 2015 , became known. Gerhard Schuller remains managing director.

Thomas Scheriau and Stefan Schneider have been managing directors since 2018.
