The Elkton Armory is an armory of National Guard in Elkton in Cecil County , Maryland . It is listed as a cultural monument on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP).

history

The Elkton Armory was built in 1915 at a cost of US $ 39,000  and served as an arsenal for various companies in the National Guard's 29th Infantry Division. Several community events have taken place in the premises throughout history. In the 1940s, Cecil County's first bowling alley was built in the Parade Hall of the Elkton Armory . In addition, the arsenal served as a place of operation in the event of a disaster, so all fatalities were temporarily stored here after the crash of Pan-Am flight 214 near Elkton in December 1963.

On September 25, 1985, the Elkton Armory was admitted to the NRHP.

In August 2017, the Maryland Military Department classified the Elkton Armory as an excess property. After the city of Elkton did not receive federal grants to build a new community center, the council decided in September 2017 instead to buy the National Guard's arsenal for just under $ 800,000 for this purpose.
