Ellen Sandweiss (born December 30, 1958 in Detroit , Michigan ) is an American actress . She gained fame in 1981 for the role of Cheryl Williams in the horror film Dance of the Devils .

Life

Ellen Sandweiss graduated from the University of Michigan . She made her acting debut in 1978 in the horror short film Within the Woods by her friend Sam Raimi , which is a kind of predecessor to Tanz der Teufel , in order to find a sponsor for the actual main film. Three years later, Sandweiss played her best-known role as Cheryl Williams in the same film alongside Bruce Campbell , who had also starred in Within the Woods .

After appearing in Tanz der Teufel , Sandweiss retired from acting for 25 years before returning to the film business. Since then she has mainly appeared in horror films and as a guest in television series. Through her former film partner Bruce Campbell Sandweiss received a supporting role in his comedy My Name Is Bruce in 2007 . In Sam Raimi's The Fantastic World of Oz , she made a cameo appearance with the other Tanz der Teufel actors in 2013 . In the TV series Ash vs Evil Dead , Sandweiss returned in 2016 for two episodes in her role as Cheryl Sandweiss . She had already been heard in the same role three years earlier during a scene in the Tanz der Teufel remakes Evil Dead .

In addition to her acting career, Ellen Sandweiss works as a singer of Jewish music . She was married to Matt Hodges and the marriage ended in divorce. Her daughter Jessy Hodges (* 1986) is also an actress.
