The Ellerbrook is a street of Lübeck .

location

The approximately 130 meter long Ellerbrook is located in the north-western part of the old town island, in the Marien-Magdalenen quarter . It begins at the Beckergrube opposite the Blocksquerstraße and runs parallel to Böttcherstraße , with Bierspünderstraße joining it from the west halfway . Across from the Großer Kiesau , the Ellerbrook meets the Fischergrube and ends there.

history

The Ellerbrook has had its Low German name, which literally means " Erlenbruch " and goes back to a former wetland of the Traven lowlands overgrown with alder trees . The street was first mentioned in a document as Elrebroke in 1297 and did not change its name in the following centuries, even though the name was also given variations:

  • 1377: Elrebruch
  • 1367: Elderbrock
  • 1442: Helderenbrock
  • 1500: Ellerbrock
  • 1571: Ellerbrokesdwerstrate (Ellerbruchsquerstraße)

The current name was officially established in 1884.

The closed historical buildings from several centuries were almost completely destroyed in the bombing of March 29, 1942 . A row of five small houses from the late 18th century have been preserved just across from Bierspünderstrasse, which is on the site of the earlier Bierspündergang (formerly Ellerbrook No. 6) .

After eliminating the ruins of the western side of Ellerbrooks remained in the post vacant wasteland and was later used as parking used. In the meantime, after the archaeological investigation of the area has been completed, the reconstruction with residential buildings including the historical small houses has been completed.
