Elli Kokkinou

Elli Kokkinou ( Greek Έλλη Κοκκίνου ; born July 24, 1970 in Athens ) is one of the most famous Greek folk-pop and modern-laika singers.

Life

Elli Kokkinou grew up in a musical family, sang in the school choir and received classical guitar lessons for five years . In addition to her sporting commitment as a water ski runner, she also played electric guitar and founded her own band after graduating from high school. She studied graphic design, architectural drawing and art history at the “Vakalo School of Art and Design” in Athens.

In 1990 she appeared as a singer with Kosta Tournas . This was followed by a first collaboration with some of the great names of the Greek music scene such as Antonis Vardis , Tolis Voskopoulos , Anna Vissi , Paschalis Terzis , Glykeria and Eleni Dimou . At the same time she worked as a background singer in studio productions.

In order to be more serious about music, Elli Kokkinou went to Los Angeles in 1992 , where she studied music theory, singing and piano for two years at the Musicians Institute of Technology . In 1994 she graduated with honors and returned to Greece.

In 1998 their first single “Someday” was released there with music by Antonis Vardis and lyrics by Manos Tsilimidis and Gioula Gerorgiou . In 1999 her first album “Επικίνδυνα παιχνίδια” (Dangerous Games) was released, followed in 2000 by “Ανδρική κολώνια” (“Male Perfume”).

In May 2003 the international breakthrough came with the album “Στο Κόκκινο” (In red, Greek Kokkino = 'red'), with compositions by Phoebus , which went platinum within two months, and Elli Kokkinou became a superstar of the Greek Modern-Laika made. The album was also released in Bulgaria and Turkey .

The titles of their next album were also written by Phoebus. The CD was released in 2005 under the name “SEX” and received gold on the day of publication. The album was also successful abroad. The release of the title “SEX” also appeared in French .

In December 2009 she announced a further collaboration with Phoebus, with whose new label she signed a contract. As a result, her CD "Τα Γενέθλιά Μου" (Eng. "My Birthday") was released in 2011 with ten compositions by this successful Greek composer.

Elli Kokkinou performed a large number of live performances, for example together with Giorgos Mazonakis , Natasa Theodoridou , Despina Vandi , Vasilis Karras , Kostas Karafoti and Nikos Economopoulos . She often sings in the Athens club Votanikos and tours all over the world.

Private

In 2007 Elli Kokkinou married Panagiotis Vasiliadi with whom she gave birth to a son in June 2008. After her divorce, she was in a relationship with the Greek basketball player Georgios Bogris until 2011 .
