Ellis Cashmore

Ellis Cashmore (born February 10, 1949 in Staffordshire , Great Britain ) is a British professor of sociology at Aston University . His main research interests are racism and ethnic discrimination. He also deals with topics of contemporary culture, especially the culture of sport. Until 2015 he was Professor of Culture, Media and Sports at Staffordshire University .

Career

Cashmore worked in a variety of different professions before graduating with a Bachelor of Sociology from Northumbria University . He passed his master's degree in sociology from the University of Toronto . He returned to England to do a PhD from the London School of Economics and Political Science . His dissertation dealt with the Rastafarian movement in England. He presented the results of his research in his first publication Rastaman , published in 1979.

Teaching

Cashmore has been deeply concerned with the changes in modern racism since the 1970s. Even today, racism is a sensitive and determining issue for societies in Europe and the USA. He examined the topic with the help of case studies, participant observation, interviews, biographical and historical methods and analyzes of online media. Of particular interest in his research was the role of famous "black" public figures on values ​​in society.
