Elmar Pankau

Elmar Pankau (born June 24, 1967 in Düsseldorf ) is a German business graduate and executive director of Malteser Hilfsdienst eV and Malteser Hilfsdienst gGmbH.

Life

Following a bank apprenticeship at Deutsche Bank in Düsseldorf, Elmar Pankau studied business administration at the University of Bayreuth and at the Ecole Supérieure de Commerce in Nantes (France). After further activities at Deutsche Bank, he became a research assistant at the Chair of Organization and Management at the University of Bayreuth and received his doctorate in 2001 with a thesis on " Social-Economic Alliances between Profit and Nonprofit Organizations".

Pankau is a member of the board of trustees of the Gerricus community foundation.

Pankau is married and has two sons.

Socio-Economic Alliance

Pankau developed the concept of the social-economic alliance . This concept shows approaches for cooperation management for profit and nonprofit organizations from a system-oriented or from a decision-oriented perspective and explains how cooperation between the two types of organization works.

While profit organizations are determined by economic purposes and increasingly have to deal with environmental changes in the social area, the opposite is true for non-profit organizations; they are shaped by social purposes, but must increasingly take account of economic environmental changes. This becomes clear, for example, when profit organizations get into public disputes in which it is not at all about their economic potential, but about the effects of their activities on socially sensitive areas; or when nonprofit organizations have to be measured not only by their social orientation but also by their economic performance.

By entering into a mutual cooperation in the form of a so-called social-economic alliance, profit and non-profit organizations are offered a way out of the dilemma of having to meet both social and economic requirements. They open up new potential for solving problems by opening up new options for action where necessary changes cannot be brought to success on their own, but only with the help of complementary partners.

Work with the Maltese

At the beginning of 1999 Pankau came to the Maltese, first as assistant to Johannes Freiherr Heereman , then as financial advisor at the Deutsche Malteser non-profit GmbH . He then worked for two years in the commercial management of the two Malteser hospitals St. Elisabeth in Jülich and St. Brigida in Simmerath, before he was appointed to the managing director of Malteser Hilfsdienst eV and federal manager of Malteser Hilfsdienst non-profit GmbH with effect from January 1, 2004 has been.

As a managing director, he played a key role in shaping the “Together Malteser - Honorary Office 2020” project, which is intended to make the Maltese one of the most attractive voluntary organizations. On August 1, 2017, Pankau takes over the management of the Malteser Hilfsdienst eV from Karl Prince zu Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rosenberg . Elmar Pankau is chairman of the executive board of Malteser Hilfsdienst eV and chairman of the management of Malteser Hilfsdienst gGmbH as well as of the management of Malteser Deutschland gGmbH.
