Johannes Freiherr Heereman von Zuydtwyck (* as Johannes Nepomuck Hermann Hildebrand Reginald Apollinaris Freiherr Heereman von Zuydtwyck on March 21, 1944 in Göttingen ) is a German business lawyer . He was the executive president of the Catholic aid organization Church in Need (2011-2018), regent of the German subpriorate of St. Michael of the Order of Malta (2004-2016) and president of Malteser International (2011).

Life

Johannes Freiherr Heereman comes from the old Dutch noble family Heereman von Zuydtwyck . He is one of five children from the marriage of Sylvester Freiherr Heereman van Zuydtwyck (1905–1991) and Alexandra Alice Countess von Hardenberg (1912–2010). He is the brother of Franziskus Freiherr Heereman von Zuydtwyck , abbot of the Benedictine Abbey of Neuburg in Heidelberg. He is the cousin of Constantin Freiherr Heereman von Zuydtwyck , former Member of the Bundestag and President of the German Farmers' Association.

He studied law in Cologne, Berlin, Geneva and Munich and was managing director of the spa in Bad Neustadt from 1973 to 1976 . The Rhön-Klinikum AG emerged from these, and he was a member of the Supervisory Board until 1999. 1978/79 he practiced as a lawyer in Simmern / Hunsrück .

Act

As an Honorary and Devotional Grand Cross Knight in obedience, Heereman belongs to the Second Estate of the Sovereign Order of Malta .

Heereman has performed many functions in the Order of Malta and its works since 1976. From 1976 to 1978 he was diocesan manager in Mainz , from 1979 general secretary of Malteser Hilfsdienst e. V., whose executive president and chairman of the board he was from 1982 to 2010. He was particularly responsible for the international service, communication, public relations and social marketing departments. He took over the management of Malteser Werke gGmbH from 1989 to 2010. From 1993 he worked as a spokesman for the management of Deutsche Malteser gGmbH , later until 2010 as chairman.

Furthermore, on June 13, 2004, he was elected regent of the German subpriorate of St. Michael in the Order of Malta for six years and was confirmed in this office for a further six years in 2010.

On April 3, 2011, Heereman was unanimously elected as the successor to Nicolas de Cock de Rameyen as the second President of Malteser International for four years , but passed on December 14, 2012. Since he was appointed Managing President of the Church in Need aid organization on December 1, 2011 , he asked for his release as President of Malteser International. Thierry de Beaumont-Beynac was his successor.

From December 1, 2011 to April 2018, executive president of the Catholic aid organization Church in Need ; his successor was Thomas Heine-Geldern .

He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the German Foundation for Patient Protection .

family

Heereman has been married to Michaela Freifrau Heereman von Zuydtwyck, nee Freiin von und zu Guttenberg , since February 1, 1970, with the graduate theologian, book author and journalist Michaela . Michaela Heereman was born on May 29, 1949 in Guttenberg as the daughter of Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg and is the younger sister of the conductor Enoch zu Guttenberg . She and her husband have six children, including Sylvester Heereman LC and Franziskus Heereman . Michaela Heereman is a strong journalist for the traditional family. She is a member of papal bodies.
