Sylvester Freiherr Heereman von Zuydtwyck LC (born September 10, 1974 in Bad Neustadt an der Saale ) is a German religious.

family

Sylvester Heereman comes from the old Dutch noble family Heereman von Zuydtwyck . He is one of six children from the marriage of Johannes Freiherr Heereman , President of Malteser International , and the graduate theologian, book author and journalist Michaela Freifrau Heereman von Zuydtwyck, a daughter of Karl Theodor zu Guttenberg .

His uncle is Franziskus Freiherr Heereman von Zuydtwyck OSB , emeritus abbot of the Benedictine Abbey of Neuburg in Heidelberg.

Life

Heeremann occurred after graduating from high school in 1994 in Meerbusch of the Congregation of the Legionaries of Christ at. In 1996 he made his first profession and studied at the religious center for humanistic studies in Salamanca as well as at the seminary of the Legionaries of Christ and at the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum in Rome . He was assistant to the novice master at the German order site in Bad Münstereifel . He was secretary to the Territorial Director (Provincial) and assistant to the Rector of the Roman Study Center, Álvaro Corcuera . In 1999 he made perpetual profession; December 23, 2006, he received the Papal Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore by Cardinal Franc Rodé CM , Prefect of the Congregation for Religious , the ordination . Heereman was then superior of the legionaries of Christ in Paris and assistant to the territorial director for the apostolates of the legionaries of Christ in France and Central Europe. From 2004 to 2006 he worked at the seminary of the religious order in Rome.

After the reestablishment of the Central European Order Province with Germany, Poland, Hungary, Austria, Slovakia and the Netherlands in 2007, Sylvester Heereman became its first Territorial Director, based in Düsseldorf. In 2011 it was merged with the Order Province in Western Europe (Ireland, France, Belgium and Switzerland), which he led as the Provincial Superior of the Central European Province.

On February 17th, 2012 he was appointed vicar general in the Roman order of the Legionaries of Christ / Regnum Christi by the papal delegate Velasio Cardinal De Paolis CS and thus succeeds the Mexican Luiz Garza Medina in office.
