Wilfried Elmenreich (* 1973 in Fürstenfeld , Austria ) is an Austrian researcher and university professor. He is Professor of Smart Grids at the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt and heads a research group at the Institute for Networked and Embedded Systems.

Life

Wilfried Elmenreich studied computer science at the Technical University of Vienna and graduated in 1998 with a degree in engineering. He started his scientific career as project staff and later assistant professor at the Institute of Engineering computer science, where he in 2002 in the field of time-triggered sensor data fusion for Dr. techn. PhD. From 1999 to 2007 he was instrumental in the development and standardization of time-triggered fieldbus protocol TTP / A involved. In 2003, he founded the Workshop on Intelligent Solutions in Embedded Systems (WISES), an annual international workshop that took place for the 11th time in 2013. He was also the organizer of the Second IEEE International Conference on Computational Cybernetics (ICCC) 2004 in Vienna.

Elmenreich was visiting researcher at Vanderbilt University , Nashville, Tennessee (2005) and at the Porto Polytechnic Institute (2007). At the end of 2007 he moved to the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt as a senior researcher and worked there in the field of cooperative relaying. From this time two patents arose in collaboration with Helmut Adam and Christian Bettstetter . As part of research on self-organizing systems, u. a. the open source research tool FREVO.

In 2008 he received the venia docendi in the field of "Technical Computer Science" from the Vienna University of Technology. After a substitute professorship for computer science with a focus on “Complex Systems Engineering” at the University of Passau in the winter semester of 2012, Elmenreich was appointed professor for smart grids at the University of Klagenfurt in 2013. He is also a member of the Lakeside Labs research cluster in Klagenfurt through several research projects .

Wilfried Elmenreich is a member of the Senate at the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt and counselor of the IEEE Student Branch. Since 2012 he has organized the international programming competition Advent Programming Contest every year.

He is the editor of several books and has published over 100 technical articles in the field of networked and embedded systems. His Erdős number is 3. In addition to scientific publications, he runs research blogs on the subjects of “self-organizing systems”, “smart grids” and “networked embedded systems”.
