Big cities Oberhausen

Elpenbach is the name of a stream in Oberhausen in the districts of Osterfeld and Sterkrade . Earlier names of the brook were " Sterkrader Bach " or " Mühlenbach ".

course

Its headwaters are in Klosterhardt , at the confluence of the Schwarzwaldstrasse and Harkortstrasse; however, the stream is already piped after 200 meters and does not come back to light until 500 meters away on Elpenbachstrasse. From there it runs through a green corridor to the St. Antony Hut , where it feeds the former hut pond and then flows in a renatured area to the Elly Heuss Knapp Foundation. The further course is piped and flows into the main Sterkrade canal of the Emschergenossenschaft .

Bach history

In the history of the St. Antony Hut, the Elpenbach played an important role in the water supply. Between 1752 and 1756 it was the subject of a dispute between the Sterkrade monastery downstream and the hut owners. The nuns of the monastery objected to the founding of the hut because they feared that the creek would be polluted and the dam would risk flooding. From 1925 to 1955 he dined at the "Sommerbad Klosterhardt" outdoor pool on Elpenbachstrasse (formerly Bachstrasse).
