The steam locomotives of the A 2 series were acquired by the Reichseisenbahnen in Alsace-Lorraine in 1871. In 1906, the locomotives were classified in the P 2 class.

history

With the takeover of the route network in Alsace-Lorraine, the acquisition of locomotives and wagons was necessary because the French had withdrawn all vehicles. Originally, the fifteen locomotives built by Strousberg according to the "Strousberg-Normalien" were intended for the Halle-Sorau-Guben Railway . However, they were no longer used there because the Reichseisenbahnen acquired them immediately after delivery. The locomotives were given the numbers 3 to 17 and the names of various German rivers.

If the locomotives were first used in express train service, they later migrated to normal passenger train service. The locomotives reached speeds of 85 to 90 km / h and ran relatively smoothly. In 1907, thirteen locomotives were still in service, but they were retired by 1912.

Constructive features

The locomotives had an inner frame. The kettle had a slightly raised standing kettle of the Belpaire type . The ash box reached far below the coupling axles . The Reichseisenbahnen operated the boiler with an overpressure of 8.5 bar instead of the possible 10 bar. The steam dome was on the rear boiler section . In front of this was the sand dome . The first coupled wheel set was sent.

The two-cylinder wet steam engine was arranged horizontally on the outside. The Allan controls were inside. The drive took place on the front coupling axle.

The suspension took place by means of leaf spring assemblies below the axle bearings. The compensating levers between the driving axles were later removed in order to be able to enlarge the firebox .

The locomotives had a spindle brake on the tender, and a compressed air brake was installed later.

The locomotives were coupled to a two-axle tender with 8.3 m³ of water.
