Elsa Barraine
Elsa Barraine (born February 13, 1910 in Paris , † March 20, 1999 in Strasbourg ) was a French composer .
Barraine studied at the Conservatoire de Paris with Georges Caussade , Jean Gallon and Paul Dukas . In 1929 she won the Prix de Rome with the cantata La vierge guerrière . She was close friends with the Dutch composer Rosy Wertheim . She worked on the radio and has been running the Chant du Monde record house since 1944 . In 1953 she became a professor at the Conservatoire and in 1972 inspector of the music department of the Ministry of Culture.
She composed three symphonies , a fantasy for piano and orchestra, a suite astrologique , theater and film music, chamber music and choral works.
