Elsa Patscheider

Elsa Patscheider (married Bernhart ; born May 17, 1928 in Graun ; † October 13, 1995 in Prad ) was a teacher and writer from South Tyrol .

life and work

Elsa Patscheider was the youngest of fifteen children in a family of farmers and teachers. She grew up in Graun in Vinschgau . The village of Graun was destroyed in 1950 in the course of the construction of the Reschen reservoir . After her training as a primary school teacher at the teacher training institute in Merano , she was a teacher at German-speaking primary schools in South Tyrol for 36 years , the longest time in Prad. She was married and had a son.

After retiring as a teacher, she wrote prose texts in the dialect of the upper Vinschgau . In her two-volume work "Olt-Graunr Gschichtn" (1992–1995) she describes her memories of Graun, the people and the area. References to real history are included as well as to legends and myths of the Alpine region.

The literary scholar and writer Toni Bernhart is her son.
