Elsbeth Stagel , also Elisabeth Stagel or Elsbeth Staglin (* around 1300 in Zurich , † around 1360 in Töss near Winterthur ) was a Swiss nun and later the prioress of the Dominican convent Töss .

She was the daughter of a Zurich councilor. She turned to Heinrich Seuse with questions about Meister Eckhart and got to know him personally around 1336. A deep spiritual friendship developed between her and Seuse, and the two of them were in lively correspondence. As the “spiritual daughter” of Seuse, she is of great importance in his works; How far she contributed to their literary drafting is still a much debated question today.

Elsbeth Stagel was co-author of the Tösser Sisters' Book from around 1340 with the vitae of 39 sisters, which offer a far-reaching representation of the Tösser women's mysticism . Among the lives is also that of Elisabeth of Hungary , who lived with Stagel in the monastery. It is thanks to Stagel's reports that today a great deal is known about the life of the princess in Töss Monastery.
