Elsbeth Luise Friederike von Nathusius (born January 17, 1846 in Königsborn (near Magdeburg) , † July 10, 1928 in Merxhausen near Kassel ) was a German novelist.

Life

Her father was the manor, politician and scientist Wilhelm von Nathusius , her mother Marie, nee. of Meibom (1820-1878). She had five siblings. Her younger brother Wilhelm was an officer. One sister, Susanne , was a well-known portrait painter in Halle . Elsbeth von Nathusius himself remained unmarried and had no children.

She grew up on her father's estate in Königsborn, where Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben dedicated twelve songs to the toddler in 1847 on the occasion of a visit to her father (such as “For Elsbeth Nathusius”) as part of the “Elsbeth album”. In 1890 she moved to Halle with her widowed father for two years. From 1912 she lived in Kassel, initially in a guesthouse, later with her brother Wilhelm and in a “women's home” in the Wilhelmshöhe district.

Nathusius published stories in the high-circulation family magazineDaheim ” in the 1880s under the pseudonym “FL Born” (formed from the first letters of their first names Luise and Friederike and the final syllable of their birthplace Königsborn) . Books later appeared under her name, including Memories of Johanne Nathusius , which referred to her aunt Johanne Nathusius , and Johann Gottlob Nathusius. A pioneer of German industry for the life of her grandfather Johann Gottlob Nathusius , who was "... more aimed at the world of men ...". She also published articles on her great grandmother, Philippine Engelhard .

After losing her sizable inherited fortune in the hyperinflation of the early 1920s, she lived in modest circumstances until the end of her life. She died of pneumonia in the Merxhausen nursing home.
