Else Sehrig-Vehling

Else Sehrig-Vehling (born May 26, 1897 in Düsseldorf ; † February 12, 1994 in Bad Salzuflen ) was a German expressionist painter .

Life

She was born as the daughter of the architect Heinrich Vehling (1868–1944) and Eva Hubertine (nee Habes) (1874–1953) in Düsseldorf. She was a member of the artist group Das Junge Rheinland . Her style was shaped by friendships with Ernst Ludwig Kirchner , Carl Barth , Max Schwimmer , Fritz Winter and other German Expressionists.

When the Düsseldorf Art Academy set up the so-called "women's class" in 1921, Else Sehrig-Vehling was one of Heinrich Nauen's first female academy students. She became an important figure in the Düsseldorf art scene. In 1933 she married Hermann Sehrig , German artist and member of the Deutscher Werkbund .

As one of the first women at the art academy, the Düsseldorf City Museum honored her early work in 1983 with a special exhibition.

Her watercolor 1950 title girl is in the city museum in Düsseldorf .
