Emanuel Augustus , born Emanuel Burton, (born January 2, 1975 in Chicago , Illinois ) is a former American professional boxer.

He was considered a classic “journeyman”, ie a boxer who was hired as an opponent for up-and-coming boxing talents, traveled across the United States and stood in the ring almost monthly.

Emanuel Augustus achieved a certain prominence in the international boxing world through his fighting style, which eventually earned him the nickname "The Drunken Master" from commentators. He often provoked his opponents with dance performances and gestures, a method known in American parlance as clowning .

Title fights

Burton began boxing professionally in 1994. He celebrated the most important victory of his career on September 26, 1998 in Norwich ; He defeated the later European champion and reigning number 1 in the WBO rankings of the world championship challenger Jonathan Thaxton in his hometown by knockout in the seventh round and thereby became intercontinental champion of the world associations WBO and IBF in the light welterweight division.

He put down the WBO title, however, and focused on defending the IBF title, which he lost to Allan Vester on June 25, 1999 in Aarhus by knockout in the final round.

On September 17, 1999, he boxed in Las Vegas against Antonio Diaz for the internationally unimportant world title of the International Boxing Association (IBA) light welterweight and lost on points. On October 15, 2005 he boxed in Montreal against Herman Ngoudjo for the international championship title of the WBC and the North American championship title of the NABF . He had Ngoudjo on the ground in the last lap, but lost on points in the end.

On March 10, 2006 he lost in the fight for the intercontinental championship of the WBO on points against Arturo Morua.

On December 9, 2006 he was in North Little Rock champion of the American continent of the WBC light welterweight. He defeated it Russell Stoner Jones unanimously on points.
