Emanuel Zisman

Emanuel Zisman ( Hebrew עמנואל זיסמן; * February 11, 1935 in Plovdiv , Bulgaria ; † November 12, 2009 ) was an Israeli politician .

Zisman was born in Bulgaria in 1935. In 1949 his family emigrated to Israel and settled in Jerusalem .

In 1988 Zisman was first elected to the Knesset . In 1992 he was re-elected. On March 7, 1996, Zisman and Avigdor Kahalani left the Avoda and founded the Third Way party . In the elections that took place in the same year, the new party won four seats in the Knesset and took part in the government of Benjamin Netanyahu .

On March 29, 1999, Zisman resigned from the party and sat from then on as a non-party member of the Knesset. He lost his seat in the May elections. In addition to his parliamentary activities, Zisman was also a member of the City Council of Jerusalem, as well as long-time chairman of the "Israeli-Bulgarian Society".

In October 2000 he became the Israeli ambassador to Bulgaria. He held this post until November 2002.

Zisman was a bearer of the highest Bulgarian Order of Merit “Stara Planina” . He was married and had three children.
