Emanuel von Graffenried (born December 12, 1726 in Bern , † November 26, 1787 in Geneva ) was a Bernese patrician .

Life

Emanuel von Graffenried studied law in Halle from 1746 and Marburg from 1748. He married Dorothea Rosina Tschiffeli in 1761. In 1764 he joined the Bernese Grand Council . He was an assessor at the city court and in the German Chamber of Appeals, council of commerce and director of the Inselspital . In 1772 he became a school supervisor, from 1773 to 1779 he served as Obervogt zu Schenkenberg and in 1785 he became chairman of the orphan court.

He was lord of Burgistein and co- lord of Seftigen and Gurzelen . In 1780 Graffenried became President of the Helvetic Society and in 1786 President of the Economic Society of Bern.

Graffenried's library of 2369 titles is located in Burgistein Castle.
