Heinrich Rieter (painter)
Heinrich Rieter (born September 15, 1751 in Winterthur , † June 10, 1818 in Bern ) was a Swiss painter .
Life
Heinrich Rieter trained as a painter in Winterthur with Johann Ulrich Schellenberg . In 1771 he traveled to Dresden to see Anton Graff , who trained him further. In 1777 he settled in Bern and became a member of the local artist society. Rieter became an assistant and later an employee of Johann Ludwig Aberli . After his death in 1786 he took over his printing workshop. In Bern he was friends with Balthasar Anton Dunker , Sigmund Freudenberger and Johann Valentin Sonnenschein . In 1780 he began working as a drawing teacher at the public school in Bern. In 1787 he married Katharina Sutermeister from Zofingen.
Most of his works are in private hands.
