Emerich Zenegg-Scharffenstein

Emerich Zenegg-Scharffenstein , completely Emerich Zenegg von und zu Scharffenstein , (born April 26, 1880 in Arnoldstein , Carinthia, † January 24, 1948 in Klagenfurt ) was an Austrian archivist .

Life

He came from an old Carinthian family (Edlingergut Zemnig in the Glantal ) and was the son of tax officer Anton Zenegg. From 1898 he worked in the postal service in Vienna , Klagenfurt and Pontafel . From 1910 to 1914 he was an official of the house, court and state archives in Vienna, then he switched to the political expedition of the Foreign Ministry and worked as a diplomatic courier. In 1921 he was transferred to Klagenfurt, where he was entrusted with the organization and management of the archives of the Carinthian provincial government (Landeshauptmannschaftliche Registratur; Landesregierungsarchiv). With this archive he was transferred to the Carinthian Provincial Archive in 1926 as a civil servant (auxiliary office director, archivist , 1936 government councilor) , where he organized and cataloged many holdings. During the Second World War he became interim director of the archive (Reichsgau Archive) and carried out the rescue and later the return work. In particular, he wrote numerous articles on family research and topography.
