Emil Elsässer

Emil Elsässer (born December 26, 1846 in Kirchberg ; † January 25, 1924 there ) was a conservative Swiss politician and entrepreneur .

Life

Emil Elsässer was born in Kirchberg on December 26, 1846, the son of the landowner Johannes Elsässer. After attending the cantonal school in Bern and discontinuing medical studies , Elsässer founded the mechanical weaving mill Oberholzer & Elsässer in 1871 with his brother Alexander and Ferdinand Oberholzer- Elsässer, which from 1892 was called the Elsässer brothers. The company was known for the progressive social attitude of the owners.

Emil Elsässer, who was married to Elisabeth, née Ryser, died on January 25, 1924 at the age of 77 in Kirchberg.

Emil Elsässer was initially represented on the Constitutional Council from 1883 to 1885 . After that, the conservative -minded Alsatian was a member of the Bern People's Party from 1886 to 1889 on the Grand Council of the Canton of Bern. He then served as the mayor of Kirchberg until 1890 . After the parliamentary elections in 1887 he was a member of the National Council until 1890 . During the Ticino putsch in 1890, he supported the Ticino conservatives.
