Emil Gerlach

Emil Johannes Gerlach (born July 14, 1902 in Heilbronn ; † August 28, 1979 in Obersulm ) was a German typesetter , businessman and politician ( SPD ). In 1933 he was a member of the Landtag of the Free People's State of Württemberg .

Life

Emil Gerlach was the son of an office servant. After attending primary school in Heilbronn, he did an apprenticeship as a typesetter and then worked in this profession. In 1920 he joined the union and before 1933 was chairman of the Heilbronner Buchdrucker-Jugend, the unemployment committee and the union youth cartel. He trained at the federal school of the General German Trade Union Federation and the folk high schools in Habertshof ( Elm ) and Comburg . In 1925 he joined the SPD and the workers' welfare.

Gerlach's candidacy for the Heilbronn municipal council was unsuccessful in 1931, and a candidacy for the state parliament in 1932 was unsuccessful. The 5th state parliament, which was not elected, but formed on the basis of the results of the Reichstag election of March 5, 1933 and only met once, Gerlach finally belonged to because of its 5th place on the SPD state list. During the time of National Socialism , Gerlach lost his job and found a livelihood in commercial activities, which also made it possible to maintain contact with the SPD party friends.

After the end of the Second World War , Gerlach was an independent businessman in Heilbronn, from 1945 to 1949 head of the municipal welfare office and from 1949 a member of the editorial team of Neckar-Echos . The re-admitted Heilbronn SPD led Gerlach from 1946 to 1948 as chairman of the Heilbronn local association and city district chairman . His candidacy for the first state parliament of Württemberg-Baden in 1946 was unsuccessful. When he was elected to the Heilbronn municipal council in the same year, Gerlach was elected, but could not accept the mandate as a member of the city administration. From 1951 until 1975 he was a member of the Heilbronn municipal council.

From 1945 to 1969 he was chairman of the Heilbronner Arbeiterwohlfahrt and from the beginning of the 1950s until 1970 he was in charge of the youth camps in the Waldheim of the Heilbronner Arbeiterwohlfahrt at the Jägerhaus . From 1947 to 1964 Gerlach was also chairman of the League of Independent Welfare Care.

Gerlach was of Protestant denomination and married. A daughter born in 1929 comes from a marriage that was divorced in 1933.
