Emil Meletzki also: Melecky , (born May 11, 1885 in Podoly Austrian Silesia , † December 4, 1947 in Vienna ), was an Austrian alpinist .

Life

By profession an insurance employee in Vienna, Meletzki joined the Austrian Alpine Club in 1911 , to which he subsequently belonged as a committee member from 1920 and as an honorary committee member from 1940, but above all as a long-time manager of the Erzherzog-Johann-Hütte on the Adlersruhe am Großglockner .

Between June 1915 and October 1918 he took part as a volunteer in the First World War in the Ortler group , where he made numerous first ascents (e.g. north ridge of the Laaser Wand, north face of Schluderzahn, southeast face of Hinteren Nonnenspitze). In the Glockner group he succeeded, among other things, the first crossing of the Teufelshorn with descent to the southeast and the first winter crossing of the Glockner group from north to south.

The Meletzki ridge , a rather seldom used climbing route over the Glocknerkarkamp to the Großglockner , is named after him. Although the first ascent of this route took place in 1892, it was practically forgotten until it was repeated by Meletzki in 1925.
