Emil Schrecker

Emil Schrecker (born January 31, 1823 , † January 6, 1905 ) was a German politician, mayor and member of parliament.

Life

Schrecker was mayor of Eilenburg from January 4, 1858 to January 30, 1893 . During his tenure in office for decades, a municipal aid fund was set up in 1859 and the dams against flooding were raised. In 1861 the market square was paved. A poor food establishment for the winter months and the volunteer fire brigade (1863) as the second institution of its kind in Saxony were founded. In 1865 Schrecker was elected for life because of his services to the Halle-Eilenburg-Guben railway construction .

In 1868 the old castle was converted into a hospital, and in 1873 the mountain school was expanded by adding a side wing. Two school building measures fell during his term of office: in 1882 an 8-level school was built to replace the 6-level community and secondary school for girls and in 1892 the school in the Kültzschau district was rebuilt.

In 1875 Schrecker was elected to the provincial parliament of the province of Saxony .

In 1893 Schrecker was made an honorary citizen of Eilenburg. The former Canalstrasse was renamed Schreckerstrasse after him in 1906 .
