Emil Wölk
Emil Wölk (born October 25, 1903 in Zinten / East Prussia , † November 13, 1944 in Brandenburg an der Havel ) was a German engine fitter and communist resistance fighter against National Socialism .
Life
Wölk learned after visiting the elementary school the profession of engine repairman. He joined the Communist Youth Association of Germany (KJVD) and became a member of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD). During the time of the Weimar Republic , he was active against the emerging National Socialism . Even after the seizure of power by the Nazis in 1933, he continued this work illegally continued in contact with the Saefkow-Jacob Bästlein organization . He was arrested on July 14, 1944 and sentenced to death on September 20, 1944.
Honors
- During the GDR era, a polytechnic high school (POS) was named after Emil Wölk in Jena-Lobeda- West . After the fall of the Wall in 1990, the school was renamed Rodatalschule. In 2005 it went on in today's Saale Valley School.
- Emil-Wölk-Straße is also located in Jena-Lobeda.
- In December 2009, a stumbling block was laid at his place of work at Michaelkirchstrasse 17 in Berlin-Mitte as a souvenir. The originally planned relocation site was his last residence in the street Am Heimhort in Spandau; the housing association responsible for this private road refused to give its consent.
