Emile Hemmen

Emile Hemmen (born December 6, 1923 in Sandweiler ) is a Luxembourgish writer.

Hemmen spent his childhood in Sandweiler and then in Wecker . In his youth denied it the military service for the Nazi occupying force and the closing resistance LPL ( Lëtzebuerger Patrioteliga ) to.

In 1943 he began to write poetry in Luxembourgish . He later wrote short stories , poems and the novel Die Wahl in German. Since 1960 Emile Hemmen has been writing more and more in French .

From 1945 to 1958 he worked as a teacher. After studying in Paris , he held the post of attaché at the Ministry of Education in Luxembourg for two years .

From 1969 until his retirement he worked as director of the "Center de réadaptation" (formerly "Institut médico-professionel") in Kapellen .

He was founding president of the "Association nationale des communautés éducatives" and vice-president of the "Fédération internationale des communautés éducatives".

He was also a founding member of the “Association européenne pour la promotion de la Créativité chez les personnes handicapées”, the Association “Coopérations” in Wiltz and a member of the “Réseau européen des centers de réadaptation”.

Together with Nic Klecker and René Welter , he was a founding member of the literary magazine Estuaires in 1986 and later of the Éditions Estuaires .
