Emile Kuri

Emile Kuri (born June 11, 1907 in Cuernavaca , Morelos , Mexico , † October 10, 2000 in Woodland Hills , Los Angeles , California ) was a Mexican production designer .

Life

Kuri began his career in the late 1930s. His early work included some Hopalong Cassidy - adventure movies with William Boyd in the title role. In 1945 he worked on I fight for you for the first time with Alfred Hitchcock , in the following two years he worked on The Paradin Case and Cocktail for a Corpse . He received his second Oscar in 1955 for the Disney adaptation of Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea , and that year he was also nominated for Robert Wise's The Intriguers . He received further Oscar nominations in the following years for the Disney productions The Flying Drummer , Mary Poppins and The Daredevil Witch in Her Flying Bed . Kuri was most recently head of the equipment department at Disney and, in addition to film and television productions, was also responsible for the equipment of the theme parks . In 1972 he retired from the film business.
