Emilio Lozoya Austin (* 1975 in Mexico City ) is a Mexican economist and politician, former head of the Mexican state oil company Pemex , and former director in the campaign of Enrique Peña Nieto , President of Mexico from 2012 to 2018. He was also director of the World Economic Forum ( World Economic Forum). He is the son of Emilio Lozoya Thalmann and grandson of Jesús Lozoya Solís . His wife, Marielle Eckes, is one of the heirs to the Granini dynasty.

Life

Emilio Lozoya Austin studied economics at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) and law at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) and from 2001 to 2003 for a Masters in Public Administration in International Development at Harvard University . From 2003 to 2005, he served as Investment Officer for Structured Finance and Distressed Assets Units at Inter-American Investment Corporation, the private arm of the Inter-American Development Bank , focusing on local foreign exchange projects in the capital markets as well as various industries in the region. From 1999 to 2001 he invested international reserves in distinct securities at the Banco de México and from 2002 to 2005 he co-founded TerraDesign, a start-up of the Harvard Business School, which focuses on social housing with projects in Senegal and Mexico. Lozoya Austin is the author of studies on monetary policy, housing markets, public policy economics, computer science education, electoral systems.

Corruption scandal related to Odebrecht and Pemex

Since August 2019, Emilio Lozoya has been wanted by international arrest warrant in the wake of the Odebrecht scandal . On February 12, 2020, Lozoya was arrested by the Spanish police in Malaga . He is accused of $ 280 million fraud and bribery by the Mexican government. In the wake of the Odebrecht scandal, Lozoya is said to have accepted $ 10 million. He was taken into custody because he was in danger of fleeing because he also presented a forged ID when he was arrested.
