Emir Simão Sader

Emir Simão Sader (born July 13, 1943 in São Paulo ) is a Brazilian sociologist of Lebanese origin. He is Professor of Sociology at the University of São Paulo and the Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro . From 1974 to 1976 he carried out research for the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Buenos Aires . From 1997 to 1999 he was chairman of the Asociación Latinoamericana de Sociología . Since August 2006, Emir Sader has been Executive Secretary of the Consejo Latinoamericano de Ciencias Sociales (CLACSO).

Sader, whose research focus u. a. of neoliberalism and its impact on the societies of Latin America, is considered as an important theorist of the Brazilian left, and was one of the initiators of the World Social Forum in Porto Alegre . In the German language Sader published several articles a. a. in Prokla , Das Argument , Le Monde diplomatique and Jungle World , in English in the New Left Review , in Latin America he writes regularly for Jornal do Brasil , Folha de São Paulo , Correo Braziliense , Página / 12 (Argentina) and La Jornada (Mexico).
