Emmanuel Charles Quist

Emmanuel Charles Quist (* 1880 in Accra , Ghana ; † 1959 ibid) was a lawyer and politician in the British colony of the Gold Coast and in Ghana.

Live and act

The establishment of Ghana - - Quist was between 6 March 1957 31 December 1957 with the office of the speaker of the first Legislative Assembly ( Legislative Assembly ) of the independent state of Ghana in charge. He was the first speaker in the Ghanaian parliament. As early as 1951, Quist was the first spokesman for the representation of the people in the Legislative Assembley of what was then the British colony of Gold Coast. In January 1958, Quist was replaced in office by Augustus Molade Akiwumi . Quist was honored with the Order of the British Empire with the rank of officer. Furthermore, the conference hall of the Parliament in Accra has been renamed The Speakers Conference Hall after Quist.

He married Joana Hesse-Buckman in Accra in 1914 (* 1892 in Accra; † 1955 ibid). His son Charles Lawrence Quist (1916-2001) comes from this marriage .
