Emmanuelle Laborit

Emmanuelle Laborit (born October 18, 1971 in Paris ) is a French actress .

Deaf from birth , Laborit learned sign language with her parents at the age of seven . She studied in Washington, DC at Gallaudet University , a university for deaf students.

As a child she gained her first camera and stage experience and celebrated her breakthrough as a theater actress in France in 1992 with the portrayal of the deaf Sarah in the play Les Enfants du Silence (literally translated as "Children of Silence" or "Children of Silence", based on the Film God's Forgotten Children from 1986), for which she was awarded the Molière Theater Prize.

She became known to international audiences in the Franco-Italian coproduction The Mute Duchess (1996). In the same year Laborit stood in front of the camera for the German film Jenseits der Stille , directed by Caroline Link , and was nominated for the German Film Prize for her portrayal of the deaf mother of an aspiring young musician . Laborit last appeared on the screen in the French episode of the episode film 11'09 "01 - September 11 .

In private, Laborit campaigns for the recognition of sign language and a separate culture for the deaf and has put its fighting spirit on paper in the report, The Scream of the Seagull .
