The Emmelke is a left-hand (western) tributary of the Medem in northern Lower Saxony .

The approximately 15 km long river belongs to the river system of the Elbe . It has its source at Wanhöden in the municipality of Wurster North Sea Coast , then flows in an easterly direction through Wanna and flows into the Medem at the municipality of Ihlienworth ( joint municipality of Land Hadeln in the district of Cuxhaven ). This in turn joins the Elbe funnel after a further 17 km near Otterndorf .
