The Emmerbach is an orographically left tributary of the Werse , which rises in Ascheberg-Herbern and flows from there through the southern districts of Münster in Westphalia . Later it flows into the Werse. The brook is led through two culverts under the Dortmund-Ems Canal . The district of Hiltrup , east of the Dortmund-Ems Canal, is called the Emmerbachtal . The Bispingbach is one of the tributaries .
The first renaturation of the formerly heavily straightened river took place in 1986, when an approximately 500 meter long section was redesigned as a pilot project and a significant increase in the diversity of animals and plants was subsequently determined. In the years 2000 to 2002, as part of the expansion of the Dortmund-Ems Canal, another extensive renaturation of the Emmerbach took place, which cost around 1.1 million euros and 80% of which was borne by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia . In the process, flood channels were created and concrete sills in the stream were removed. In addition, the bank was greatly flattened and mainly pedunculate oaks and hornbeams were planted there.
By NABU Naturschutzstation Münster country is in the Emmerbachaue at Davensberg in conservation and FFH -region Davert a grazing project with rear cattle and Konik set -Pferden. The combination of extensive year-round grazing with the creation of new water and woodland biotopes should contribute to a natural development of the floodplain landscape.
