Enders State Forest is a state forest in the US state of Connecticut in the area of the parishes of Granby and Barkhamsted . The forest was established in 1970 with a piece of land donated to the state by the children of John and Harriet Enders. Another donation in 1981 and subsequent acquisitions let the forest grow to 2,105 acres (852 ha).
geography
The Enders State Forest is located near the Barkhamsted Reservoir , but the waters (including Beach Brook , and the West Branch Salmon Brook with its tributaries Higley Brook and Kendall Brook ) drain east to the Farmington River . The mountainous terrain is dominated by the Pine Cone , which rises to 107 ft (326 m) above sea level. A little further east is Broad Hill (780 ft, 238 m).
free time activities
The forest offers opportunities for hiking and hunting. Several waterfalls are popular destinations for swimmers in the summer. Unfortunately, serious accidents keep happening there.
