Engelbert Dworak

Engelbert Dworak (also written Dvorak or Dworschak , born October 8, 1899 in Vienna , † April 29, 1953 ibid) was an Austrian politician.

Life

Engelbert Dworak was born in Vienna as the son of simple craftsmen. After attending secondary school , Engelbert Dworak studied at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences from 1919 on and obtained an engineering degree in 1924 or 1925 . During his studies he joined the Catholic fraternity of Danubia.

In 1925 Dworak became secretary of the district chamber of farmers in Gföhl , and from 1927 in Hollabrunn , where he was also a member of the city council as a representative of the Christian Social Party . When a local group of the Ostmärkische Sturmscharen was founded in Hollabrunn, Dworak became secretary of the local leadership.

On October 13, 1933, he became regional leader of the Fatherland Front in Lower Austria . In May 1937 he moved to the position of Deputy Secretary General of the Fatherland Front. In September 1936 he was appointed "State Militia Leader of the Reserve" of the front militia . From May 22, 1937 to March 12, 1938 he was a member of the State Council .

After the " Anschluss ", Dworak was arrested in March 1938 and taken to the Dachau concentration camp on April 1, 1938 with the so-called " Prominent Transport " . After his release on April 30, 1939, he was under the supervision of the Gestapo . In August 1939 he found a job in a sauerkraut company , in 1940 as head of the commission department of the "Kolben-Kraus" company.

In the Second Republic , Dworak was a member of the state parliament and council of the ÖVP in Vienna from 1945 to 1949 and, from 1945, deputy chairman of the Viennese farmers' union. 1945–1949 he was also managing director of the Austrian Grain and Brewing Association. From 1949 he was managing director of the companies "Pohl & Co" and "Barta & Co". After a serious illness in 1950/51, he worked in the auditing department of the Lower Austrian Chamber of Agriculture from 1951 to 1953.
