from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Engelbert IV. (* Around 990; † March 15, 1040 ) was the son of Count Engelbert III. in the Chiemgau . His mother is either Adala of Bavaria , daughter of Count Palatine Hartwig I of Bavaria, or Adala, daughter of Count Meginhard in the Mangfall. He came from the respected and powerful Bavarian noble family of the Sieghardinger . Engelbert IV. Was count in the Norital and Pustertal .

Live and act

Engelbert's first mention in the Tyrol area is on April 19, 1028. This is the first time he is documented as a count in the Norital. This county was probably bestowed on him in 1027 by his brother, Bishop Hartwig I of Brixen . Emperor Konrad II had awarded this to the diocese of Bressanone the same year before in order to secure the Alpine passes with loyal followers. Engelbert IV. Appeared from 1028 until his death in 1040 as Count in the Norital and as Vogt of Brixen .

Engelbert must have received Engelbert in the same way, through Bishop Hartwig I. The exact time of the enfeoffment for Engelbert and when the diocese received the county is unknown.

From the year 1035 Engelbert IV. Appeared as bailiff of Salzburg, which probably brought him rich possessions in Upper Bavaria.

Engelbert died on March 15, 1040. His county in the Norital probably fell back to the Brixen monastery. He bequeathed the Domvogtei to Salzburg to his nephew Count Engelbert V in Chiemgau. The possessions in Pustertal, Lavanttal and Upper Bavaria remained with his heir, Richgard. Around the year 1045 she married Siegfried I from the Rhine Franconia of the Spanheim family . He took the rich estates and named himself after them.
