Individual counts before 10th century

  • In a certain sense, the eponymous Count Chiemo can be considered the first Chiemgaugraf. However, there is no documentary evidence of it.
  • Gunther (also: Guntherius ) in or from Chiemgau (around 749), son or nephew of Duke Tassilo III. , see Otting Monastery , (married to Hadeburg); possibly identical to Saint Gunther von Melk , who is said to have died in a boar hunt in 775, whereupon Tassilo founded the Kremsmünster Abbey at the place of death in 777 and had his son or nephew buried there.
