Engelbert Schaufler

Engelbert Schaufler (born November 11, 1941 in Steinakirchen am Forst , † November 20, 2000 in Vienna ) was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and union secretary. Between 1993 and 2000 he was a member of the Austrian Federal Council .

education and profession

Schaufler attended elementary school between 1947 and 1951 and then moved to a secondary school from 1951 to 1955. He then worked in his parents' farm from 1955 to 1963 and graduated from an agricultural vocational school between 1956 and 1957. In 1963 he became a driver and works council chairman for the workers in the Raiffeisen warehouse in Gramatneusiedl , where he worked until 1980 and also attended the social academy from 1989 to 1979. In 1980 he moved to the legal department of the private workers' union and in 1981 became secretary in the agricultural-food-enjoyment union. Schaufler worked as a union secretary until his death.

Politics and functions

Schaufler began his political career as a professional representative in the Lower Austrian Chamber of Agriculture, of which he was a member of the Chamber Council between 1977 and 1987. Between 1987 and 2000 he held the office of President of the Chamber of Agriculture. In addition, he was chairman of the Austrian Chamber of Labor from 1987 to 2000. In addition, Schaufler was active as a union, where he worked from 1981 to 1990 as chairman-deputy of the union Land-Forst-Garten. From 1990 to 2000 he was also a member of the board of the agricultural-food-enjoyment union and from 1991 to 2000 a member of the executive committee of the agricultural-food-enjoyment union. Furthermore, between 1991 and 2000 he was Federal Deputy Chairman of the Christian Trade Union Party in the Austrian Federation of Trade Unions.

Schaufler was active in local politics between 1980 and 1990 as a member of the Schwechat municipal council, after which he was a city councilor from 1990 to 1996. In addition, from 1992 to 2000 he held the function of a sub-district chairman of the ÖAAB district of Schwechat. He represented the ÖVP between July 9, 1993 and November 20, 2000 in the Federal Council, and from November 20, 1997 he was also a steward.
