Karl Drochter

Karl Drochter (born July 1, 1940 in Himberg ) is a former Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and secretary of the Austrian Federation of Trade Unions . He was a member of the Austrian Federal Council from 1987 to 1993 and from 1996 to 2000 .

education and profession

Drochter attended elementary school in Himberg between 1946 and 1950 and then from 1950 to 1954 the local secondary school. Between 1954 and 1957 he graduated from the Federal Trade School for Foundry and in 1957 worked as a technical employee at Waagner-Biró Stadlau. He then changed from 1958 to 1961 as a former and foundryman at the Bachmaier metal foundry, doing his military service in 1960. He then worked as a foundry specialist at Hutterer and Lechner between 1961 and 1971 and was then regional education officer for the Austrian Federation of Trade Unions in Lower Austria from 1971 to 1983. He then worked as the state secretary of the Austrian Federation of Trade Unions in Lower Austria until 1987, and most recently from 1987 onwards as chief secretary of the ÖGB.

politics

Drochter began his political career in 1970 as a councilor in Ebergassing . Between 1979 and 1986 he practiced as deputy mayor of the municipality and from 1980 to 1986 he was also an executive member of the Ebergassing municipal council. Then he was a simple councilor from 1986 to 1988. Within the party, he was active as a member of the state party executive of the SPÖ Lower Austria from 1985, was elected a member of the SPÖ federal party executive in 1987 and was active from 1986 as a member of the Vienna Conference of the SPÖ Vienna. He was also a member of the SPÖ's Vienna Municipal Council from 1996 and a member of the National Defense Council in 1996. In addition, he held various functions in the metal-mining-energy trade union of the Schwechat district organization, was secretary of the Socialist Trade Union Party (FSG) in the ÖGB Lower Austria from 1983 to 1987 and from 1987 Federal Secretary of the FSG. From 1988 he also worked as a member of the executive branch of the European Trade Union Confederation and was active from 1983 to 1995 as a chamber councilor of the Chamber for Workers and Salaried Employees for Lower Austria. Furthermore, between 1983 and 1989 he was a member of the board of the Chamber for Workers and Salaried Employees for Lower Austria and from 1992 to 1995 he was a member of the board of the Federal Chamber for Workers and Salaried Employees (Federal Chamber of Labor).

Drochter represented the SPÖ from December 1, 1987 to June 6, 1993 and from January 26, 1996 to October 19, 2000 in the Federal Council.
