Engin Arık
Engin Arık (born October 14, 1948 in Istanbul , Turkey ; † November 30, 2007 near Keçiborlu , Turkey) was a Turkish physicist . She was a professor and headed the particle physics experimental group at Bosphorus University .
Professional background
Arık studied and graduated from Istanbul University in 1969 with a degree in mathematics and physics. In 1971 she received her M.Sc. from the University of Pittsburgh . and in 1976 her Ph. D. She continued her studies at Westfield College of the University of London continued.
In 1979 she returned to Turkey and became a faculty member of the Bosphorus University in Istanbul. In 1983 she left the university for two years, during which she worked for Control Data Corporation . In 1988 Arık became a professor at Bosphorus University.
Between 1997 and 2000 Arık took part in the meetings of the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty for the Turkish government at the headquarters of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) of the United Nations in Vienna .
She worked at CERN in Switzerland at ATLAS and the CAST experiment with.
Private
She was married to Metin Arık, who is a professor at the same faculty at Bosphorus University. The marriage had two children. Arık was killed in a plane crash ( Atlasjet flight 4203 ) on November 30, 2007.
