The Engin blindé de reconnaissance et de combat ( EBRC ) "Jaguar" (armored reconnaissance and combat vehicle) is a new generation of armored 6x6 wheeled vehicles , designed for combat in populated areas as well as off-road. It is to replace the ERC-90 Sagaie and AMX-10 RC of the French army.

history

The French army set the year 2020 as the date for the replacement of the armored wheeled vehicles currently in use. The EBRC program initially provides for the purchase of 70 to 250 vehicles.

The Department of Defense has outsourced the development to Nexter , Thales Group and Renault Trucks Defense . The first deliveries are planned for 2020. In 2016, 248 EBRCs were still planned. A first contract for 20 vehicles was signed in April 2017. The 2019-2025 Military Programming Act is expected to increase the number of EBRCs to 300 by 2030.

The acquisition of this vehicle is part of the Scorpion program to modernize the army cavalry , which also consists of the modernization of the Leclerc tanks and the replacement of the Véhicule de l'avant blindé with the VBMR "Griffon".

description

It is an armored vehicle with 6 wheels and all-wheel drive. The combat weight is between 20 and 25 tons. The Jaguar's T40 turret is armed with a 40mm CTAS cannon and a 7.62mm coaxial machine gun. These are located in the tower of the two missiles from MBDA developed type Missile Moyenne Portée under armored protection, two more missiles are located in a magazine. The cannon can be raised at an angle of up to 45 ° in order to be able to engage higher targets.

In addition, 70% of the equipment will be shared with that of VAB's successor, the VBMR "Griffon", including the Quiri suspension produced in Strasbourg, the Elips d'Elno intercoms from Argenteuil and the acoustic fire alarm Pilar V from Metravib in Lyon .

To complete its defensive capabilities, the Jaguar will also be equipped with laser warning detection and radio and infrared jammers; it is protected against mines and improvised explosive devices.

Countries of operation

  • France: 300 units planned by 2030.
  • Belgium: 60 copies to be ordered for the army under the CAMO ( CA pacité MO torisée) program and to be delivered between 2025 and 2030. They are destined to replace the Piranha 3C and Dingo II in the Motorized Brigade. The decision was officially announced on October 26, 2018 by Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel after signing a letter of intent on June 22, 2017. After trying to enforce its own turret, CMI Defense will now be responsible for the final assembly of the 40mm turret, as well as maintenance and training. The remote-controlled turrets will be produced by FN Herstal , while Mecar (a Belgian subsidiary of the Nexter Group) will develop and supply some of the ammunition.
