The Belgian company Fabrique Nationale Herstal (until the end of 1972 Fabrique Nationale d'Armes de Guerre ), better known under the name Fabrique Nationale (FN) , based in Herstal near Liège (Liège) was founded in 1889 and has been producing weapons since it was founded .
FN Herstal is part of the Herstal Group ; other subsidiaries are the US Browning Arms Company and the Finnish optoelectronics manufacturer Noptel . While FN Herstal focuses on guns for the police and military, Browning primarily manufactures guns for hunters and marksmen , including the Winchester brand .
From 1940 to 1944, FN manufactured weapons and ammunition for the Wehrmacht with the production label ch in occupied Belgium .
FN became known worldwide through the license production of the NATO rifle FN FAL developed in 1946 . But FN has also recently come up with a number of new developments, such as the FN Five-seveN self-loading pistol , the FN P90 submachine gun , the FN F2000 assault rifle or the FN SCAR multi-caliber rifle .
