Enoch Thorsgard

Enoch Thorsgard (born March 30, 1917 near Northwood , North Dakota , † December 16, 2015 in Northwood, North Dakota) was an American rancher and politician ( Republican Party ).

Life

Enoch Thorsgard was born in 1917 on a farm near Northwood to Arne Thorsgaard and his wife Clara (née Markve). He grew up with a sister and three brothers. Later he worked as a farmer and cattle breeder. As such, he built one of the largest privately owned feedlots in the upper Midwest .

From 1969 to 1980 he was a member of the House of Representatives of North Dakota for a total of six legislative terms , where he represented the 19th district as a Republican. As a member of parliament, he campaigned for the construction of the North Dakota Heritage Center .

In addition to his work as a rancher and his political career, he was involved in the North Dakota Family Alliance , which is committed to the protection of traditional family values. In 2008 he published his autobiography Enoch's Saga: Horsepower to Satellite in a Single Lifetime.

Thorsgard was married and had six children.
