Enric Casals

Enric Casals i Defilló (born July 26, 1892 in Barcelona ; † July 31, 1986 there ) was a Catalan violinist , composer and conductor . He was the brother of the cellist Pau Casals .

life and work

Casals received introductory music lessons from his father, the organist and pianist Carles Casals i Ribes . Then he studied violin in Barcelona with Rafael Gálvez and Matthieu Crickboom . He later studied at the Brussels Conservatory and completed postgraduate studies with František Suchy in Prague. He was the founder of the Casals string quartet . He has appeared as a soloist with various orchestras and ensembles, including the Pau Casals Orchestra , with which he occasionally directed. He participated in the organization of the Prades Festival .

He composed concerts for violin and cello, a sonata for cello and orchestral works, orchestral sardanas. He also worked as a music teacher. Gonçal Comellas and the brothers Gerard and Lluís Claret were among his student tribe .
