Enric Gispert i Fabrés

Enric Gispert i Fabrés (* 1925 in Barcelona ; † 1990 there ) was a Spanish choir director and music critic . Gispert was a specialist in early music .

life and work

Gispert combined a law degree at the University of Barcelona with an education at the Schola Cantorum Universitaria Barcinonensis under the direction of Antoni Pérez i Moya and Cristòfor Taltabull .

In 1953 Gispert founded the “Al·leluia” choir, which he himself directed until 1965. With this choir he performed everything from Renaissance compositions to Negro Spirituals to musical works of the 20th century (including works by Paul Hindemith ). From 1958 he was associated with the Barcelona music ensemble Ars Musicae de Barcelona and directed it until 1973. With this ensemble he took part in various music festivals for early music such as the Festival of Granada (1966). He also made several recordings with this formation.

In publications like “Destino” he promoted interpreters of Nova Cançó Catalana such as Quico Pi de la Serra , Toti Soler or Raimon through music criticism .

In the last years of his life he devoted himself to groups such as "Consonare" and the chapel "Santa Maria del Mar", which he founded in 1986.
