Enrico De Maria

Enrico De Maria (born December 20, 1976 ) is a Swiss sailor . Together with Flavio Marazzi he sails as a bow in the star boat class.

De Maria celebrated his first international success in 2001 when he became world champion in the Farr 40 boat class . In 2003 he was part of Ernesto Bertarelli's Alinghi team , which won the Louis Vuitton Cup and the prestigious America's Cup that same year . Then he took over the job of the bowman in Flavio Marazzi's star boat. Second in the 2004 World Cup, they qualified for the 2004 Summer Olympics . In Athens they just missed an Olympic medal in fourth place. In 2006 they finished seventh in the world championship, in 2007 they won the European championship gold medal. BothAt the 2008 Olympic sailing competitions in Qingdao , they came in fifth.

In 2007 De Maria was part of Team Alinghi again and helped defend the America's Cup against Team New Zealand . In addition, he became world champion in the non-Olympic 5.5 m class in 2004 .
