Ensemble Adlerstrasse

The residential buildings of the Ensemble Adlerstrasse in Bremen - Mitte , district Ostertor, Adlerstrasse 1 to 21 are under monument protection .

history

Today's Ostertor district did not belong to the old town of Bremen. It was not until 1849 that the "gate lock" was lifted and the suburban citizens were given the same civil rights as the old town citizens. After that, around 100 to 150 two-story row houses were built annually in the 1850s. The houses on Adlerstrasse are typical buildings of this time.

Typical cut of a house in Bremen

The mostly two-story houses Adlerstraße 1 to 21 between the streets Rembertistraße / Hoppe Bank and Fedelhören near the Rembertiring the architect Hermann Rauschenberg for the contractor Johann Heinrich Mende were built from 1853 to 1856 according to plans.

The simple, classicist , partly romantic row houses with living and sleeping floors on both sides of Adlerstrasse show the characteristics of the early days of the Bremen house . They have continuous street and courtyard fronts, the rear line of which was previously interrupted by the lavatory houses. The uniform overall picture is loosened up by the differentiated facade decorations. All houses have three window axes, the side entrance and the side entrance to the basement . The basement is 1.30 meters below street level and can be reached from the street via an external staircase.

Today (2014) the houses are used for residential purposes but also as practices and as offices or shops for service providers.
